Privacy: What We Keep, What We Don’t, and How to Get It Removed

The short version

We run this site as a small operation and we keep the data side just as small. We have no interest in building profiles of our readers. Nobody here is an IT specialist, and we would rather collect less and sleep better than collect more and worry about it.

What our servers record

Like any web server, ours writes standard log entries when someone loads a page. That means your IP address, the browser and operating system your device reports, the page you asked for, and the time of the request. These logs exist so we can spot broken pages and keep the site online. We do not match them to names or build histories from them.

Comments

If you leave a comment, we store what you type into the name, email and comment fields, plus the time you posted. We need the email to recognise you on a return visit and to deal with spam. We do not publish it. Your name appears with the comment because that is the point of a comment.

Analytics and cookies

We keep a basic count of page views so we know which guides are actually useful. Nothing follows you to other sites. The only cookies you are likely to get from us are functional ones, for example to remember a comment you have already left. We do not run advertising cookies and we do not pass cookie data to anyone for marketing.

What never happens to your data

We do not sell it. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. We do not hand it to third parties for their own purposes. The only outside services involved are the ones needed to host and serve the site, and they hold the data on our behalf only.

Asking us to delete something

Want a comment removed, or anything we hold about you erased? Just ask. Use the contact page on this site and tell us what to delete. We will find it and remove it, and we will not make you fill in a form or prove anything beyond what is needed to locate the record.
